ReferentIn: Petra Beyer, Helmholtz-Centre for Infectious Diseases (HZI), Braunschweig

Termin: 5th - 7th of September 2017

Thema: This FELASA course is  offered at the HZI and is open for MGK854 students from all participating institutions. This course on Laboratory Animal Science according to the recommendation of the “Expert Working Group on the development of a common education and training framework“ qualifies doctorate students for carrying out animal trials according to the requirements under Art. 23 & 24 of Directive 2010/63/EU corresponding to FELASA (Federation of European Laboratory Animal Science Associations) and GV-SOLAS (Gesellschaft für Versuchstierkunde/ Society of Laboratory Animal Science). In addition to comprehensive practical training including mouse handling, anesthesia, minimally invasive procedures and appropriate methods to sacrifice laboratory animals, the course imparts comprehensive knowledge regarding national legislation, ethics, animal care and welfare. The course consists of a theoretical self-learning module and a 12-hours practical training (3x half-day) at the HZI animal facility. Theoretical knowledge and mouse handling skills have to be proven by written and practical examination. Thereby, the FELASA course officially qualifies the young researchers for the independent execution of animal experiments.
