Campus holiday kids 2021

Impressions from the campus holidays 2021

After an involuntary break in 2020 we could again welcome little scientists on the 29th of July and 5th of August. Within the framework of the campus holidays for kids of the family office of the OVGU they visited us, to discover the world of immune cells. PhD students of the MGK 854, students of the M.Sc. Immunology and staff members of CRC 854 gave them insights into the immune system. During an interactive lecture the children learned what this mysterious immune system actually is and how our body police protects us from intruders. Numerous questions and enthusiastic participation showed that the children had already heard many of the key words due to the pandemic but making sense of them is actually not so easy. Afterwards the litte discoverers could get gloves on and isolate DNA from strawberries - every succesful isolation was excitedly greeted. Furthermore the children could make immune cell buttons and take them home afterwards and everyone got a copy of "Immun im Cartoon", a comic for further reading at home. Thank you very much to the dsai e.V. (Patientenorganisation for angeborene Immundefekte) for providing these free of charge!
