Profile

The MGK 854 “Molecular organization of cellular communication in the immune system” aims at the sustainable education of doctoral students joining the CRC854. Our interdisciplinary teamwork connects the research areas of immunology, inflammation research and neuroscience.

In addition to practical training, the MGK 854 also underscores an advanced training of its doctoral students to qualify them for their prospective field of employment. The structured curriculum defines subcategories covering all aspects for a successful academic or non-academic scientific career. Students will obtain key qualifications in self-reliance, science & project management and acquisition of third-party funding. They will further benefit from MGK 854-organized lectures, joint-retreats, practical courses, coaching workshops and symposia, and the participation to conferences, scientific schools or external traineeships. Scientific and professional categories covered by the curriculum will enable the PhD students to accomplish the thesis within the defined graduation time frame.

A thesis committee, steered by principal investigators of the CRC 854, will supervise the creative initiation and quality until the successful completion of the thesis. A mutual supervision agreement warrants regular report of progress for the student in order to acquire the ability to handle scientific output.

The MGK 854 education program shall enable its graduates to become ambitious and autonomous scientists with international visibility in the fields of immunology and inflammation research.

In addition, the MGK 854 has longstanding cooperations with the:
Otto-von-Guericke Graduate Acadaemy (OvG-GA)
Leibniz Graduate School (LGS)
Else-Kröner-Forschungskolleg (EKFK)
Helmholz Centre for Infectious disease HZI Graduate School.
