Two small miracles in quick succession – a spontaneous twin birth at the University Women's Hospital
On March 9, 2026, two girls were born at our University Clinic for Gynecology, Obstetrics, and Reproductive Medicine in Magdeburg, delivered vaginally and just 16 minutes apart. The twins were born at 38 weeks and 1 day of gestation.
It was a dichorial diamniotic twin pregnancy. This means that each baby has its own placenta and amniotic sac, which is the most common type of twin pregnancy.
The mother hopes her story will encourage other women. A twin pregnancy does not automatically require a cesarean section. Under favorable conditions, a spontaneous birth is also possible.
We extend our warmest congratulations to the family and wish them a wonderful time getting to know each other as a family of four.
